PDF (which I hate) seems to have become a standard for transmission of drawings intended to be plotted. That's how we did it in the old days, before laserprinters, CAD and Xerox.Īgreed file conversions sometimes just don't work well. Probably would take no more than an hour of work, and should be more than accurate enough for his purposes. Then it should be simple to scale the A4 drawing up to any size you want, manually, by transfering key points from the small grid to the large one, and then connect the dots. Take a roll of wall paper, and draw a properly scaled grid on the back of that (say, 100x100 mm). One other option would have been to simply print on A4 scale, then manually draw a grid on it (say, 10x10mm grid).

Means making a custom size paper 88 x 45 is not a standard sheet size. Acad has their own conversion, in program. If I followed his directions it should plot correctly. It is a plot to file option, that I was unaware of. I called my boss about pdf, files made in autocad, I had never done it. I still have an old HP7550 plotter (1984, but still going strong) that could do it in a few overlapping A3 plots, if I had no other options. jpg formats (that were never intended for that kind of work anyway).Īt least, that's what I would do in your situation. No conversion steps, no silly printing in. Just walk in with your memory stick to the drawing or design department, and you should have your drawing in 10-15 minutes. Explain that you're doing it for a hobby project, that it's non-commercial, and chances are it will cost you nothing or next to nothing, especially in an engineering school. They will have plotters that should be able to print on a 1:1 scale. Or any company that builds machines, or does CAD work. Visit the nearest technical school/university with a mechanical engineering department. Converting CAD files is notoriously difficult and prone to errors. I wouldn't make all those conversion steps (.dxf ->. All of which gets me wondering, why was it drawn that way. 68 ft, it still doesn't correspond to any known sizes or suitable fractions like 17, 34 or 136. Even if it were converted numerically to 68 inches or. Neither of which corresponds to any known wheel sizes, nor their convenient multiples or fractions. Noticed that you got 1300mm wheelbase, which means your rim and tire diameters are also 680 and 800mm respectively. It needs some work.Īdded the blue lines for dims, and changed from metric to dual scale on the dims. No commercial printer is going to clean it up, to plot it. It is metric, which may be an issue to get plotted to scale.
